Legal Focus: Handbook Updates for the 2025-2026 School Year

There is no question that employee and books are a critical component of running a smooth operation. Employee handbooks set expectations for both new and current employees, and are key in effective employee management. It is not uncommon for school transportation contractors to distribute an employee handbook to all employees at the start of the school year, often at back-to-school meetings. Accordingly, school transportation contractors may find that the best time to review and update the handbook is over the summer months when there is limited transportation operations. It is recommended that school transportation contractors make this process a yearly occurrence; however, it is not uncommon for contractors to lapse review periods, resulting in handbooks that are out of date.
