Transportation Opportunities for FIFA World Cup
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming to North America this summer. Notably, 6 matches will be held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA, with the first on June 14, 2026 and the last on July 4, 2026. MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ will also hold eight matches, the first on June 13, 2026 and the last with the World Cup final on July 19, 2026.
The Federal Transit Authority (FTA) recently published a Major Events Playbook identifying the potential need for transit agencies to supplement public transportation services with charter services for upcoming major events in the United States, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Pursuant to the Charter Service Rule under 49 CFR Part 604 and the FTA’s Charter Notification Process, private charter operators are notified of potential charter opportunities that are received by a transit agency, and these private operators are provided with the right of first refusal for any potential charter services. But, private charter operators must register with the FTA in order to receive such notifications. Transportation providers located in the central and eastern regions of Pennsylvania should consider registering as a charter provider with the FTA if interested in potentially performing charter transportation related to the FIFA World Cup. Contractors can register by visiting the FTA website here.
